A stunning modern building right in Cardiff’s town centre situated in the heart of the Hayes. Cardiff library boasts fantastic facilities. From children’s area on a secure level with computers available, Books, DVDs, Cd’s & more. There are regular activities & story time sessions available for children, these change seasonally but there is always something going on in Cardiff’s library. Within the library is a grand piano that can be rented out, so some days you may hear an accomplished pianist practicing within the facility.

Nicknamed the ‘Big Ben of Cardiff’ as it has a clockface that resembles the London landmark. The Pierhead building is home to a number of films & archives exploring Welsh history & has space for public events/speeches organised by the National Assembly. This Grade I listed building, features fantastic architecture with a French gothic theme Gargoyles, friezes & hexagonal chimney’s are some of the quirky features of this iconic building.

Northern meadows

5. Northern Meadows / Fforest Farm

Situated in North Cardiff Whitchurch/Coryton sits the Northern Meadows. A vast open fields & woodlands home to Cardiff’s precious wildlife & habitats. Perfect for dog walkers & ramblers, the Northern Meadows offers a tranquil walk among the wildlife. You can also walk along the Glamorgan canal a pure delight in one of Cardiff’s top suburbs.

Fforest Fawr

4. Castell Coch

Dig out those walking boots, it’s time to go out & enjoy the woods! Yes, that’s right Castell Coch has an absolutely fantastic sculpture trail right in the heart of it’s woodlands. In 2018, certain sculptures were replaced as they had been damaged by the elements & have now been replaced with new sculptures of animals that used to roam the Welsh woodlands. It’s roughly 1.5 miles long & on you walk around you will be able to see horses in the neighbouring fields as well as Castell Coch it’s self.

Cardiff Bay Barrage

A firm favourite with many is walking across the barrage. Not only can you see beautiful boats & yachts coming in & out of the bay, it’s a fantastic way to spend time strolling & taking in the beautiful views that Cardiff Bay & Penarth have to offer. When walking through the barrage, be sure to check out the 10 meter long crocodile which was installed to mark the 100 year birth of Roald Dahl. Adidas have also opened an outdoor gym/activity centre, which can also be found towards the Bay end of the barrage walk. Perfect for getting the family fit!

Roath Park Cardiff

2. Roath Park

A beautiful open space right in the heart of Cardiff. There’s plenty for families to do, from taking out rowing boats & pedalos to taking a stroll through the lush green flower gardens. Standing proud at the forefront of the lake is the ever popular landmark the light house, which was constructed in the lake containing a scale model of the Terra Nova ship. This stands as a memorial to Captain Scott who sailed to the Antartic from Cardiff in 1910. The lake is home to some fantastic wildlife such as ducks, swans & even herons which can be seen throughout your walk around the lake. Neighbouring parks include Roath Park recreation ground which features outdoor tennis courts, lovely greenery & plants, as well as football pitches, outdoor gym equipment & local children’s play areas.

Bute Park Cardiff Central

1. Bute Park & Arboretum

Our slice of green heaven right in the heart of Cardiff’s city centre & is one of the largest parks in Wales. Featuring an historic animal wall, in which families can see sculptures of lions, hyenas & apes. Fancy getting fit? There’s a fitness trail for adults, as well as a woodland trail for kids all located near the summer house cafe. Also an interactive QR Trail, where you will need to download an app this trail takes you across 14 points of interests across the park making it an enjoyable interactive family experience. There’s numerous plants & wildlife within the park & breath taking views of the Castle & city greenery.

5. Tiny Rebel Brewery

Tiny Rebel an independent ale house selling unique craft beers & ales throughout the capital. You may see Tiny Rebel on tap in many venues across Cardiff but none is more impressive than the official Tiny Rebel bar on Westgate Street. Some of the more well known ales on offer are Cwtch, Clwb Tropicana & peaches & Cream to name but a few. Tiny Rebel also serves food throughout the week & is famed for it’s burgers our favourite is the Rebel burger it’s super tasty!

4. Kongs Bar

Kongs Bar, a retro bar filled full of your favourite arcade games alongside ping pong tables & ample seating area. It’s time to stack up your coins & get your game on. What could be more fun, it’s a gamers dream, great food, great drinks & amazing games that’s why it tops our list.

Alchemist Cardiff

3. The Alchemist

Famous for it’s magical cocktails! We say magical, as each & every cocktail on it’s menu has some sort of party trick to it. From smoke to bubbles, there’s a never ending list of delicious drinks to choose from which will definitely keep you entertained all night long.

Gin & Juice Cardiff

2. Gin & Juice / Rum & Fizz

This we had to roll into a double, why you ask….well it’s because they are owned & operated by the same company. Wanting some gin? Well Gin & Juice has you covered with an extensive menu full of unique & exclusive gins, team that up with knowledgeable staff & you’re soon to find a tipple you’ll love.
Rum & Fizz another fantastic ba,r again featuring all the rum one could need not, even captain Jack Sparrow could get through all these…..Our personal favourite is Barti Ddu Rum it is one to add to your list.
Located opposite each other in the Castle arcade, both bars have been thoughtfully decorated giving it a downtown New York feel. During the day it’s transformed into a coffee shop selling a fantastic range sandwiches, cakes, snacks, hot & cold drinks. We are sure you’ll love your visit here.

The Botanist Cardiff

Welcome to Cardiff’s very own indoor jungle cocktail bar & restaurant…..quite literally, you are transformed from the high street into a tranquil paradise with cocktails & food to keep you entertained all night long. It boasts the biggest out door terraced bar in the capital & has an impressive selection of cocktails at a very reasonable price. We tested quite a few of these beauts & I can honestly say the one that blew us away was the pink gin punch, a must when you visit.

Calabrisella Canton Cardiff

5. Calabrisella

By far the best pizza in Cardiff! Calabrisella is a family run Italian restaurant with 2 locations in the heart of Cardiff one in Canton & a new location on Cathay’s terrace. Calabrisella offers an array of home cooked Italian meals all of which can be ordered to take out or eaten in at the 2 locations. We highly recommend trying out their pizzas’s they are absolutely delicious, whether eating in or taking out.

Honest Burger Cardiff

4. Honest Burger

Honest burger Cardiff has the best selection of burgers in the capital. Whether it’s chicken, beef, vegetarian or vegan, you’re sure to have a tasty meal. Our favourite has to be the Cardiff burger, it’s filled full of Welshy goodness. We teamed that up with rosemary salted fries it was absolutely delicious.

Riverside Cantonese Cardiff

Who doesn’t love a good Chinese? The Riverside Cantonese offers a fantastic range Chinese/Cantonese food to eat in or take out. The restaurant is very spacious, the staff are very attentive & friendly & the food is simply delicious. It really does make for a fantastic night out.

Marco Pierre White Cardiff

2. Marco Pierre White

No trip to Cardiff is complete without a stop off to Marco Pierre White’s steak house. Based in the Dominion arcade, Cardiff Marco Pierre White’s offers an elegant dining experience over looking the capitals skyline. The food is simply delicious & our top recommendation is to always go for the steak / meats. They really are second to none. Live music is played on weekends, giving it a very intimate feel!

The Ivy Cardiff Restaurant

1. The Ivy

We save the best till last, yes that’s right, The Ivy has come to Cardiff! The Ivy offers diners an elegant evening of glamour, food & drinks. The restaurant has been beautifully decorated throughout & gives the whole restaurant a 5* feel. The waiting list to get into The Ivy is pretty extensive, so be sure to book in advance if you would like to go during your stay.
